Keep improve - Workplace Networking Skills

No matter what your line of work is, networking is an important step towards success.

Not only do you learn from the people you meet, the bigger your network - the benefits of association increases.

For many people, networking seems like an impossible task.

People are unsure where to start, what to say when we initially connect, and how to maintain the relationship. Networking is an art that you can learn from experience.

Here is a guide you can follow to improve your networking skills.

  • Networking Mindset
  • The Destination
  • The Networking Map
  • Building A Human Connection
  • Super-connecting

Follow below :

1 Networking Mindset :

The first step is to remove the thinking that networking is working. you can be meeting new people and then getting in touch with them regularly.

This change of mindset is very important as networking is best done when it is organic and not just a change of business deals.

Let's imagine you meet someone new on a business trip. if you genuinely try to understand him and treat this person as a friend.

Then it is a lot easy to strike a conversation with that person. This also makes it easy to approach the person later on.

On the flip side, if it is just a handshake with a greeting, you would hesitate before approaching that person later on. Hence Mindset key, to begin with.

2 The Destination :

Have you ever realized that you are much more excited about a trip when you know what to expect at the destination?

This is because we have dreamt of the final destination and knows how to head towards it.

Similarly, when you know how many people you want to build a relationship with, it is better to network than just randomly meeting people.

You can set yourself a small target o meeting with 10 new people each week, and each week when you achieved the target, your confidence will be a boost.

Then slowly and steadily, you can increase the target and ultimately reach your destination. So, keeping your destination insight is always helpful.

3 The Networking Map :

Now that you know where you want to reach in a month's and years.  you should develop a strategy to get to your destination.

Imagine you are starting your career as a sales executive. The first step should be to get introduced to the people you work it. You can start talking to people you work it. You can start talking to people during lunch, or during the day when you meet them in life, or somewhere else.

You can also connect with them on networking sites like LinkedIn and Facebook. Just find a common topic you can discuss with, and it will slowly and surely grow into a relationship o fits own.

Similarly, you can build a strategy for your self and then follow it daily to achieve your destination.

4 Building A Human Connection:

This is where most people find it as they can meet many people in a day but never turn those small talks into a human connection.

The easiest way to do so is by asking insightful questions that might lead to a conversation.

It is a simple concept of better question yields a better answer. As the conversation starts to flow, you will end up building that human connection.

5 Super-connecting :

This is the most effective and hard way to grow your connection. Have you ever introduced two people who are in need of a person with a particular skill?

These two people will interact and may end up doing something productive.

You may ask, how does this benefit you? What you did for the two people above is super-connecting.

In a nutshell, you are helping that person grow. When you super-connect a few people, words start to spread around that being in touch with you is beneficial.

People will want to connect with you in a hope you connect them with someone worthy. But it is hard to connect two people on a regular basis without hoping to get something in return.

But once you start doing, you will understand the benefit of super-connecting.

The above mentioned are a few steps that you can use to improve your networking skills at your workplace or anywhere else.
